Elf Maeve is less than half my age and like a newer computer she does everything with incredible speed and accuracy. She likes to swim with me and she also enjoys tea in nearly the same quantities as me. Maeve does not always spend money on new runners when she ought to. The elf staff will address this shortcoming this year.
This is amazing elf Sarah showing off her lunch during set up at the One of a Kind show. She is the main help in all ways for my business in Toronto and is always keen to take time off from her day job to do grunt work to help set up and break down my booth, sell copious numbers of coasters, and store the odd painting that won't fit into the shipping crate.
Elf Pip started at the One of a Kind show when she was 9 when I took her out of school to come and help at the show. Now she can count back change without a calculator, manage sales tax from province to province, fold tea towels to perfection and sell as much as any of us can. Sometimes she rolls her eyes at me though.
This is Ja (my sister) and Cathie. Ja helps out in every business crisis I run into from running a courier service for my work in Vancouver to unincorportating my company when I need to in a hurry. She also takes Lupin (my dog) for long stints of time when we go away climbing etc. Cathie is very organized. She does not come to work with spills down her shirt. She always writes neatly on the invoices for wholesale orders and keeps me in line.
Lupin, last but not least, is the Director of Sales and Returnable Sticks. I do not consider her an elf as until she can get herself a pair of opposable thumbs she is not much good at production or counting back change. Lupin is very small, very quiet and perhaps the most important addition to my business 6 years ago.
This is my friend Suzanne and my mum. Suzanne is an old friend who used to run track with me at high school. Suzanne gives me a lot of business advice and i make her go swimming with me in return. Margot (my mum): My mum is in charge of my moral accountability and also she tells me when my ideas are bad. it would sound like this: “hmmm, yes, well not your best work I would say Sa. Yes, could do better”. My mum keeps me supplied with Mark and Sparks digestive biscuits to help out when anything is difficult in life.
